The India joint-venture creates a mutually beneficial business relationship for EGI and Manipal. Manipal gains access to EGI's unique portfolio of innovative diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic selection products. EGI benefits from Manipal's deep market knowledge, capabilities and commercial infrastructure in three key areas:

  1. Patient access:  Manipal owns and operates hospitals, primary care clinics, and health care delivery centers which include:
    • Treat 1.5 million patients annually
    • Employ over 1,000 doctors
    • Own and operate 15 hospitals (with 3,700 beds), 9 primary care clinics and 55 community health programs
  2. Physician access:  Manipal is the largest educator of Physicians in the region; Manipal has:
    • Physician training and education infrastructure in over 20 countries
    • 24 constituent institutions and 4 teaching hospitals
    • 3 universities and 9 campuses in areas including Malaysia, Nepal, United Arab Emirates
    • 17,200 students attending campus based institutions
    • Students from 52 countries
    • 2,400 faculty and 6,600 employees
    • >175,000 students studying online
  3. Deep and broad medical product manufacturing, marketing and sales capabilities:  Manipal has interests in a number of Life Science companies in India with commercially valuable development, manufacturing, marketing and sales infrastructure and capabilities. Examples of these companies include:
    • A medical device company specializing in the design, development, manufacturing , marketing and sales of Class III Active Implantable Medical Devices with a special focus on emerging markets .  Marketed products include pacemakers, leads, programmers, lead adaptors and accessories (such as vein picks, guide-wires and lead repositioning kits
    • A medical equipment company that sells and services a wide range of medical equipment for specialists in areas including ENT, gyne, neurology, monitoring equipment and dental
