Cancer Resources

The following organizations provide a variety of support, advocacy and educational programs for people with colorectal cancer. However, this is not an endorsement of these organizations and the programs they provide.
American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. ACS operates the National Cancer Information Center, a call center that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The center answers questions about cancer and links callers with resources in their communities, including transportation, support groups, or low-cost or free screenings if they are available.

Fight Colorectal Cancer

Fight Colorectal Cancer executes a number of advocacy-based initiatives to improve screening, diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer; educate lawmakers on colorectal cancer issues for better policies; and build general awareness about the disease. The organization’s website offers information on managing colorectal cancer, a tool for helping patients find available clinical trials, and a host of other patient support resources.

Colon Cancer Alliance

The Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA) is the oldest and largest national patient advocacy organization dedicated to ending the suffering caused by colorectal cancer. In order to increase rates of screening and survivorship, the CCA provides patient support, public education, supports research and conducts advocacy work across America. Resources offered by CCA, include a toll-free helpline for patients; a peer-to-peer support network; and an online chat room, a message board, and listserv.

United Ostomy Associations of America

The United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc. (UOAA) is a national network for bowel and urinary diversion support groups in the United States. The organization, which provides support for a number of affiliated support groups, provides an array of resources on its website, including guidebooks on colostomy, diet and nutrition, and other issues relevant to people who have had a colostomy. It also provides a discussion forum, a list of additional support groups, and information about relevant conferences and events.

Cancer.Net

Cancer.Net brings the expertise and resources of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the voice of the world’s cancer physicians, to people living with cancer and those who care for and care about them. ASCO is composed of nearly 30,000 members who are the leaders in advancing cancer care. All the information and content on Cancer.Net was developed and approved by the cancer doctors who are members of ASCO, making Cancer.Net an up-to date and trusted resource for cancer information. Cancer.Net is supported by The Conquer Cancer Foundation, which provides funding for breakthrough cancer research, professional education, and patient and family support.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan Cancer Support is a UK charity, providing information and support to anyone affected by cancer.They offer free helplines and local information centers staffed by cancer specialist nurses, as well as a comprehensive range of patient-friendly publications and an online cancer community. Additionally, the organization also provides financial help for cancer care.
